J4CG specialists and school staff describe Luis as one of the kindest and most respectful students ever – regardless of the difficulties he has had to endure throughout his lifetime. As a young man he lost his father to an accident, and his mother and brothers had to take on jobs to support the family. A few years after his father’s passing, his older brother, with whom he was very close, passed away in an accident, leaving the diminished family struggling even more. His other brother suffered a disabling back injury when they were moving houses, meaning more weight was placed on Luis’s shoulders. Luis had to grow up fast as he was left to fill the role of the main provider.
J4CG gave Luis the support and skills he needed to explore and discover possible job/career change. He learned key interviewing skills and some essential tips on how to keep a job. Although UPS has been a very good job for Luis, it is the first step for him. With the help of his J4CG specialist, he discovered a passion for sales and has now applied to different jobs that offer him an opportunity to kick-start a full time position after high school graduation. In the meantime, he continues to help out his family by working part-time at UPS.
Luis’s goal for the future is to find a job in sales and to become financially stable. He has such a positive attitude, no matter what he is doing or going through. It’s an inspiration to watch Luis keep a smile on his face and stay motivated through school and work.
