COVID19 – ACEs for J4CG

Jobs 4 California Graduates (J4CG), utilizing the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Program model used in 40 states across the nation, works with vulnerable youth populations. The JAG program is a resiliency building, school-to-work and college model that addresses trauma using ACEs science and practices. J4CG works closely with Dana Brown, ACEs Science Statewide Facilitator, seeking her expertise on a variety of self-care/healing projects that benefit students, parents, JAG Specialists/Teachers and others in need of support.

In response to COVID-19, JAG Maine State Trainer, Tracie Travers, reached out to Dana Brown of ACEs science, inquiring of the possibility of co-creating the development of a one-hour recorded virtual training. Tracie shared this information with JAG Specialists in Maine that were overwhelmed with the pain they, their loved ones, peers, and students, were enduring. Specialists shared that the tremendous feeling of loss was impacting their well-being and they were in dire need of any resources or tools they could utilize to improve the quality of their lives.

Tracie and Dana connected virtually and processed the learning objectives in response to these unprecedented times. With the collective trauma our world is experiencing, they were intentional on honoring the grief and loss (e.g. jobs, income), they wanted to develop a virtual training honoring loss, supporting self-care and self-compassion, and inspiring collective healing on the interconnectivity of all of us.

On 4.13.20, Tracie and Dana recorded, via Zoom, the one-hour virtual training, titled, Seeds of Hope: Healing from Collective Trauma

With the pandemic both a crisis, and an opportunity, Tracie and Dana created the following learning objectives.

Recognition of Self: Acknowledge Fear, Loss, and Vulnerability

Building Resilience: The Power of Thought and Intention

  ○Self-Talk, Self-Healing, Self-Care, Self-Compassion

Interconnection of all of us: Nurture Our Relationships

○Physical Distancing Should Increase Social Connection

○Trusted Relationships with Colleagues, Parents, Families, Communities
  ○Communities of Collaboration

The one-hour recorded virtual training will be disseminated to JAG Maine Specialists, the Maine Department of Education, and all school districts in Maine.
